I have Screambox and Shudder, and most years I don’t make great use out of these services, so I searched for something different and came across this little gem.
This is a simple story of Ollie and Blair who are professional burglars, and early on, Ollie gets caught, so Blair bails him out. She had to get a loan from some guys you don’t want to get in business with. They know that they have to rob someone soon to get the money to pay them back. Enter Blair’s brother, Connor, and his buddy, Riley. Ollie sees Connor as a fuck up, and he most certainly is. He has been scouting out a place that seems perfect. They break in, but can’t quite seem to get out. They picked the wrong house.
Now this may sound similar to the Collector, and it does share some of those aspects, but this also is tongue in cheek, lots of random one-liners and a few sight gags. It knows what it is, it’s not some crazy bloody torture flick, but there is blood and death. It’s simply more light-hearted. Some of the jokes don’t always hit, but enough do to make you chuckle. This was clearly done on a lower budget, but it looks pretty good, in my opinion. It’s not handheld bullshit. There is way more to like than to dislike. Riley is hilariously stupid and Ollie tries to deliver jokes knowing that he always fucked them up. Blaire is easy on the eyes for the male audience. I believe that this is a film that I’d like to own someday. Also, the ending isn’t terrible.
The acting quality was decent all around. For what this film is, you aren’t going to want 70’s era DeNiro. You want young actors who are having fun. I see no real reason to be overly critical or analytical, for that matter.
Rating: 5.8 – I would absolutely watch this again. It’s surprisingly fun. If you have Screambox, check it out.

I am doing a GoFundMe to help pay for the costs to keep 9deuce.com up and running. I don’t make any money off of the site. I do it because I love it, but it is expensive at times, and I had to recently renew for 3 years. So I am asking any of my readers to consider donating if they have the extra funds. If you don’t, I get it. It would mean a lot to me.
