I haven’t ever seen any of the sequels to The Exorcist, but with Scott Wilson’s passing today, I had to try to find something to honor him with. I had heard great things about this film. I have also heard terrible things about Part 2, which I will have to watch at some point. I don’t know how much of the story I really want to spoil, if any. I think that this is a film that slowly reveals itself and progressively builds upon itself. So let’s discuss the acting. That is something that I can comment upon.
George C Scott is an icon, he gives a great performance here as the lead character, Kinderman. I love his gruffness, a real man’s man back in a time when that stuff was cool. I still think it is, but society sucks nowadays. Ed Flanders played the role of Father Dyer. What I loved most was how he and George played so well off of one another. It was like 2 best friends were on film together. I really enjoyed their dynamic. The true standout performers here were Brad Dourif and Jason Miller. Brad is best known as the voice of Chucky and One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, and Jason is best known for the original Exorcist as Father Karras. These guys do some great work, but I think Brad stole the show. Brad is just such a wonderful talent when given something to sink his teeth into. Kudos to both gentlemen.
I’d say that Scott Wilson’s performance as Dr. temple was really good stuff too. He was a really good supporting character. Nancy Fish as Nurse Allerton played her role very well. Mary Jackson also deserves props as Mrs. Clelia, an old lady who may or may not be crazy. I should also note that Samuel L Jackson, Fabio, and Patrick Ewing were all in this as well in bit parts, I think all 3 were in the dream sequence. The latter 2 were at the very least. Even guys like Larry King and Kevin Corrigan was in this. All in all, a wonderful cast to tell a truly compelling exorcism story.
This was nothing like I anticipated, and that made me incredibly happy. I am usually bored by exorcism films unless they do something different, and this one most certainly did just that. If you have access to Shudder, it is on there now to stream.
Rating: 7.2 Wow, I really liked this movie. One of those gems that have flown under my nose most of my life. I am glad that I finally got the opportunity to sit down and enjoy it. Horror fans should really have a lot of fun with this one.

I am doing a GoFundMe to help pay for the costs to keep 9deuce.com up and running. I don’t make any money off of the site. I do it because I love it, but it is expensive at times, and I had to recently renew for 3 years. So I am asking any of my readers to consider donating if they have the extra funds. If you don’t, I get it. It would mean a lot to me. https://www.gofundme.com/keep-9deucecom-alive
