Here we are with Rob Zombie’s sequel to his remake. I’ve only seen this film once, and somebody was on their phone during a good chunk of the film, so it disrupted my viewing.
As you can imagine, the cast is amazing in this. Sheri Moon Zombie, Scout Taylor Compton, Brad Dourif, Malcolm McDowell, Tyler Mane as Michael, Dayton Callie (Unser from Sons of Anarchy), Danielle Harris, Margot Kidder, Duane Whittaker, Mark Boone Junior, Bill Fagerbakke, Chris Hardwick, Weird Al, and Sean Whalen (Roach from People Under The Stairs).
There’s this bit from when Michael was still in the institution as a kid and his mom would visit and they talked about him dreaming of her in white and there is some white horse nonsense going on.
Laurie is sent to the hospital as she is fairly mangled from what happened in part one. Well, the 2 coroners picked up Michael’s supposed dead body, talking about how they wanted to fuck one of the female victims. Well, Unser is a coroner, and he runs into a cow. Both coroners are dead so Michael is up and killing.
Time to kick back and try to enjoy the show uninterrupted.
HAHA, the showdown with Bobby from SOA and Maynard from Pulp Fiction taking on Michael Meyers. Follow that up with the dinner table conversation about who the original Starvin Marvin was. Brad Dourif is hilarious, giving Danielle hell about not knowing who Lee Marvin is possible and then being a meat eater. Too funny.
Malcolm McDowell is pretty damn funny, as a complete pompous ass. I love it. Ohhh, hello tits and ass. Chris Hardwick hosting a talk show with Weird Al and Dr. Loomis, that was great. Better than this mother fucking toothache, I’ll tell you that much. I’m very happy to see the Rocky Horror costumes at this party and the 2 topless chicks. Check that, 3. This dude in the wolf mask, he’s such an idiot and deserves to di…..and he got killed. She told him to reach down her pants, I say you take that chance, and he dropped the ball. He completely blew it with a chick who wanted to fuck. And let me tell you ladies something, I’m somewhat of an expert when it comes to blowing chances at getting with a chick. That used to be my MO. I was the lamest mother fucker when it came to sealing the deal. SO yeah, this guy was a fucking idiot.
I hated them killing off Annie. I really liked her more than your typical chick in a slasher flick. Brad Dourif is a fine actor who I’d love to see get more screen time in future roles. And it wraps up with a nice cover of Nazareth’s “Love Hurts” while Laurie looks down the white hallway seeing her mom and the white horse.
Ugh, I don’t know where to begin with this movie. It’s a unique movie in that it is a sequel to a remake of one of the most popular horror franchises of all. I always say, if you’re gonna do a remake, make it different enough to be your own film and worthwhile for the audience to like both. This one sure as hell was unique. It’s not a film you can truly love without the first one, and I feel you need repeat viewings to get a lot of things. It’s complex in its own endearing way. I have long talked poorly about this film, and that was perhaps unfair. I regret not seeing both movies consecutively. That’s going to be the litmus test in December or January, to see both consecutively. I found myself happy, angry, sad, laughing, so many emotions, and I can’t be mad that a movie elicited so many diverse reactions from me. It wasn’t a bad movie, but it was so different in its approach, I am sure it soured a chunk of its audience. Then some people simply didn’t like it. Some people never gave it a second chance. It got a 4.9 on IMDB, and that makes so much sense to me now. And yet, I am advocating that I get it, and I liked it a lot. Especially since there seemed to be no intent to make a part 3, this worked really well and was different. I liked humanizing Michael a bit and making Laurie/Angel more psychotic. I am giving this a strong 6.9 with potential to grow in future viewings. If you are going to watch this, watch both movies back to back, and come into this with an open mind of what a slasher can be. I recommend this to open-minded viewers who like Rob’s other works.
Final Rating: 6.9
