Leprechaun: Origins (2014)

Leprechaun: Origins was produced by WWE Studios. Stop laughing. WWE Studios have had very little success with the exception of the horror genre. Unfortunately, their luck ran out with this leprechaun film. This is not good.

WWE Studios was behind both See No Evil and See No Evil 2 which were pretty fun, especially the first one. They were also behind Oculus, which is definitely their best horror film and one of the more underrated in recent memory. They also gave us Barricade, which was very average, but not offensive. The Call, No One Lives, and Incarnate have decent reviews. As I said, it is the one thing that the WWE Studios nails. But Leprechaun will always be the putrid stain on the couch that cannot be removed.

The biggest problem with this film is that the Leprechaun is not as you would imagine. Oh no. Not a funny little man who rhymes a lot and looks awesome. Nope, they cast Hornswoggle, a guy who basically portrayed a wrestling leprechaun, and used him in the lead role. No, this Leprechaun would be based on subterranean mole rats. Go ahead, let that sink in for a moment. Also, Dylan didn’t want any preconceived notions of what Leprechaun should be so he never saw any of the previous 6 films. Well, let me tell you something brother, this isn’t it.

That begs the most basic question. Why would you acquire the rights to film a Leprechaun film and then do something this fucking inane? Anybody……anybody? How this film’s script was ever accepted, how anybody agreed to participate in this film is beyond me. If you take away the Leprechaun name, at least you lower the expectations and people just say that it was a very mediocre to a lame horror flick.

Take away the title, and this film still sucks. That’s how impressively awful this is. The 2 led characters are so boring and annoying. Jeni was nice to look at, at the very least. David is potentially a familiar face as he had a decent role in Freddy vs Jason. Of course, the script absolutely ass rapes his character. He gets hurt, nobody helps him. Then the group is all tied up, he gets free, unties everybody, and is left to die by this group. Such unredeemable fucking people. Hamish and Sean were good for what they were, they clearly were the 2 standout performers, in my opinion.

Rating – 2.3 – Did anybody walk away from this film proud of what they did? Does anybody talk fondly about their experiences in this film? Does anybody watch this film and say that it’s good or do they recommend it to anybody? I’m guessing the answer is a big N-O to all of those questions. Just avoid this one and
