I know that this movie is usually on most new horror movie lists for the 2000’s an up. Lots of hype and praise. I have been meaning to see this one for a few years now. Let’s have some fun!
This movie is in French, so I have to give my undivided attention for subtitle purposes. And typing while not looking at my screen is not always easy, but I’m typing in the dark, so what’s one more hurdle?
So what I have gathered is that this young girl was abused and tied at the wrists to a chair with a hole in it to use for bathroom purposes. Her wrists were infected. Now she is like an orphanage or institution. I don’t really know. Her name is Lucie. She has a friend Anna. Judging by the cover of teh case, I’m guessing these will be our 2 leads. Let’s face it, we know that Lucie at some point will get some vengeance 15 years in the future. And we are now 15 years in the future.
The doorbell rings and the daughter says “Who’s the butthole” in the subtitle at least. AND shit just got crazy. I can’t even give any remote play by play at this point unless there’s a good line because things just went from 0-80 really fast and I don’t know how important all of this will be. I can tell you that the 2 girls have been searching for the people that abused Lucie as a child.
Lucie also sees a person or entity that I don’t think is really there. I gotta try to figure this out. The person is a nude, dirty, bruised up female. I briefly saw boobs. So we at least have one pair. Nothing to take enjoyment out of, but they existed. Lucie has flashbacks, this entity hurt her. I’m guessing it’s all in her head and she hurt herself, this doesn’t strike me as a supernatural type film, more a psychological bloody good time.
I’m a little less than halfway done, and the dichotomy of this film has gone in an unexpected direction for. In that regard, I love the idea of not knowing fully what to expect. I hate to devalue bare breasts, as they are typically a treat, but this is now my second pair, and they are of victims. Think back to say Schlinder’s List. All of that nudity and yet impossible to enjoy given the circumstances. Same concept here, only in a torture flick sorta way.
Holy hell, that head device for lack of better terms….I mean damn. That was one of the most fucked up things I’ve seen in a long while. Needlessly to say, I’m very impressed. The French have been kicking our ass in horror for the past decade or so. And just like that, 15 minutes after the interesting turn, things just got even more interesting. This movie will keep you interested the whole way through, and possibly disgust you. A little more than an hour in, and I think we’re gonna have us a little torture party. This will probably make Hostel look like a Disney film. Yup, that is about right. Third pair of boobs, much better, but still no enjoyment factor really.
Holy shit, and they just went over the limit of what we are used to even in extreme cases. WOW. I’m sitting here in complete awe at what I just witnessed. Wow.
Well, that was fairly fucking disturbing. THAT my friends is horror done at such a high level that you don’t feel comfortable recommending to many, if any people. It’s not because it was bad, it was fucking brilliant, but that’s a hell of a torturous ride from a psychological, gore, torture, and violence perspective. Between this movie and Mania, I have found 2 movies that probably have cracked my top 25 horror films. I would give this an 8, with a 0.5 fluctuation based on how I feel upon multiple viewings.
I guess I will say this, if you truly can handle something extreme, and I do mean extreme, this is something you should see at least once. This is not for 98% of the population, hell probably less. But for those who want to see a work of art, check this out.
I don’t own the rights to this picture or film. I think Canal Horizons owns the rights.
