May (2002)

So here’s another one of those random movies I picked out while hanging out with Amanda, and this one was surprisingly good. I have probably seen this 7 or 8 times.

First of all, it is a very cheap movie, cost half a million to make. Yet, that works. You have 3 main characters. You have Angela Bettis in the role of May, and I wholeheartedly recommend watching some of her other work. Then my man Jeremy Sisto is Adam, who May has a thing for, and is one of my guilty pleasure actors. Anna Faris plays May’s colleague at work at the veterinary clinic, he name is Polly, and she’s a veteran of the Scary Movie franchise. There’s a hot chick named Ambrosia with beautiful legs, but alas she has never done a nude scene that I can find. Finally there is James Duvall in a quirky quick role, and you may recognize him from Independence Day as Miguel.

So let’s get to the story, because that’s the important selling point here. May had a rough childhood, she had a lazy eye, wore an eye patch, her parents were odd, and they gave her this weird doll which has been this friend of sorts for her growing up. May works at this veterinary clinic helping sewing up the animals after surgeries. Her co-worker Polly is a lesbian and does find some weird attraction to May. One day May meets Adam, and he’s this good looking dude, and she is just enamored with him, to the point of being very creepy, taking things too far. She creeps out Adam more than once and he tries his best to distance himself from her. May decides that she wants to try out this whole lesbian thing, alllright. Anna Faris and Angela Bettis have done nude scenes, I just researched this. Anyway, at Polly’s place, Polly is distracted by Ambrosia, who is pretty damn good looking, so Polly says she can’t pass up the opportunity to hit that. And who can blame her? Later on May does get intimate a bit with Polly, but May has slowly gone down her downward spiral.

May also has some weird scene where she voulnteers with blind kids and one is obsessive with May’s doll case which is glass, and in this weird scene, there’s a struggle, the case falls, and all the kids crawl on their hands and knees over the glass. It is just a weird scene that serves no real purpose in my opinion. Yes, there is a bunch of symbolism about May’s safety and psyche cracking and breaking and her childhood, but this was unnecessary to put it simply.

So yeah, now May is batshit crazy. All of these people in her life have something really nice about them, but she needs to detach the good parts from the bad part of the person. So her first victim is this dude who can eat jujube candy all day. This dude is utterly ridiculous. He gets got by her, can’t remember what body part she takes of his, his arms or torso I do believe. The next victim is Polly. After that she has Ambrosia do a nice spin around so we can see her legs and that ass, and she gets killed, obviously for her legs. Finally she goes after Adam and his hands because her hands make her panties wet. She gets home, makes herself a doll made of human parts. The ending is very odd. I definitely recommend this if you can find it.

I would say this is a 7.1.
