Nope, this is not a joke. I watched the fuckin Notebook. I figured, somebody will see this and giggle and read this expecting me to utterly rip this movie apart. But I am not gonna do that. Here’s what i discovered. This was a good movie. Not just a good chick flick, this was actually a well done film. And as a guy, unless you are dealing with a girl going through some shit, and you trying to appease her, by and large, you are not gonna go out of your way to watch this. It goes against the male thought process once a movie is labeled a chick flick, and sometimes that prevents us from seeing a well told, well executed film.
The acting is pretty darn good, especially the chemistry between Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams. There’s some good side players as well. The guy who plays Gosling’s dad was probably my favorite. James Marsden, god awful Cyclops, does an admirable job. And then my personal favorite was actually James Garner, the narrator and featured character.
This is of course a love story. And in a way, it is very typical in guy imposes will on girl, girl finally gives in, they fall head over heals for each other, something interferes and causes a split(in this case her parents), guy goes and does some crazy shit and tries to win her over, but she is obvious, and sometime down the road, they meet up again, the feelings re-ignite, and she has to get rid of her current lover to be with the true love of her life, and things work out. Well kinda sorta, depends on how you interpret the ending. Me personally, I found it heartbreaking but simultaneously beautiful to go the way that she went. Yup, I cried. I have feelings, it happens. Overall, it was a beautiful story, and I apologize that you didn’t get more bang for your buck as you was hoping for a scathing review filled with hilarity, and instead you got this. Well wait until #32, and you will get the scathing diatribe that you want. As for the notebook, shit, I give it a 7.1 and would honestly recommend it to anybody. Guys, use this as a tool to get your tool in her, and you won’t hate your life. This is way better than watching sparkly vampires.
