The sequel to Pumpkinhead is definitely odd. Is this even a real sequel? It feels like they drastically changed the mythology in this one. This also got a video game release on the PC on DOS, as a first-person shooter. Well, I’ll be damned!
As I said, this doesn’t seem to have anything to do with the original. In this one, there’s a deformed orphan named Tommy who is taken care of by Ms. Osie. He gets brutally beat by this group of teenage boys, the Red Wings or at they the Blood Wings? I can’t remember. Tommy ends up dying. 35 years later, Sheriff Sean Braddock moves from NYC to Ferren Woods, which is where he grew up, and it’s a small quiet town. This was supposed to be relaxing for him. Well, his daughter hangs out with the wrong crew. They mess with Ms. Osie and try to resurrect Tommy’s corpse and they set Ms. Osie’s cabin on fire. Well, Tommy returns as Pumpkinhead. He gets vengeance on the wrongs of the past and present.
I liked this story a bit better. I had a clearer idea and understanding of this version of Pumpkinhead. Honestly, they did a better job with this one story wise. Acting is slightly worse because the first had some genuinely creepy people. This just had Soleil Moon Frye, better known as Punky Brewster. She was something though. I thought the role of Jenny could have been significantly improved upon. She was so generic in every way. The Sheriff was also bland. The best performances were probably from Ms. Osie, Judge Dixon, and Tommy.
I don’t really understand why the original gets a 6.2 while this gets a 4.6. Really, how different are they in quality? Aside from the superior setting, I don’t think the better characters counteracts the worst story. Everybody has their own opinion. I do wish they would have called this something else because it didn’t feel like a true sequel. I may visit the other sequels. I haven’t really been enamored with this franchise though.
Rating: 4.6 – I preferred this over the original. I like the story here. It tied together better and didn’t lull me into boredom as much. Still, I have no intention of seeing it again.

I am doing a GoFundMe to help pay for the costs to keep 9deuce.com up and running. I don’t make any money off of the site. I do it because I love it, but it is expensive at times, and I had to recently renew for 3 years. So I am asking any of my readers to consider donating if they have the extra funds. If you don’t, I get it. It would mean a lot to me.
