This week, Alpha made her demands known about getting Lydia back while showing a bit of what The Whisperers
1. Daryl ended up making the Lydia for Luke and Alden trade. Here are a few questions. A) Did Alpha grow on you more this episode? B) Did you find it odd that Daryl made the decision and not Tara with regard to the bount? C) If you had to make the trade decision (bounty), what would you have done? D) Would Henry have been a more enjoyable character if he didn’t sneak off chase some tail? Ya know, rather than cause the inevitable. E) Did Alpha break her own rule by referring to Lydia as her daughter?
Raylene: A) It is still way too early for me to give an opinion on Alpha. B) Nah Daryl just does whatever he wants. C) Yeah, I would’ve traded that group obviously wants to be left alone or they just want to kill everyone. (I think they would be happy if left alone.)D) I think Henry character is doomed because most thought this would’ve been Carl’s story. E) Seems like she did.
Chris: A. Alpha was great in this episode. You can tell she is a powerful leader for her group. Plus the whole thing with the baby shows that she believes them to be animals. B. I have to correct you on this. Tara made the decision. They had gone to get Lydia while Daryl was talking to Alpha. ( I watched it twice and didn’t get that impression. Not saying you’re wrong, but I felt that Daryl was running that business.) C. I don’t think they really had a choice. Choice A everyone lives; Choice B people die. D. I don’t think Henry can be saved at this point. He has been thrust into a role his character wasn’t ready for. Not the actor’s fault of course, but there’s no connection to his character. I think his story with Lydia could be good if given enough time, but I’m not sure if fans care. (From the little I have read online, I am not sure that fans care or like Henry.E. Of course, she did, but I don’t think people are allowed to question her…
Kent: A) Yeah, this episode worked much better for Alpha, in my mind. The accent is still weird, but it could work in a creepy way. “Wrong answer” was a great line in her accent. B) I’m not surprised, but I think that Tara needs to have that moment of authority, eventually. You don’t have to be a Negan or Rick, but you have to put your foot down at some point. She should have imprisoned Henry again. C) Yes, if it keeps these scary mofo’s away from the group and brings us back Luke, hell yes. Also, the guy who plays Alden apparently has a very interesting accent. D) Yes, as I said, he should have been imprisoned. This would have resulted in less Henry screen time, which would be wonderful and may spare some tears in 5 weeks. E) I think she did break her own rules.
2. Ezekiel led a mission to get a projector bulb and a frame for the new charter. A) Is it surprising that a place like a movie theater hasn’t been fully cleared these many years after this whole thing started? B) Was it worth the risk to go for these two items, realistically? C) What is the first film that you want them to play?
Raylene: A) Not really I would think the theater doesn’t provide many usable supplies but it is a great place to get candy and popcorn seems like something Gregory would’ve had at Hilltop. (Oh, Gregory would have liked some
Chris: A. I’m not sure if a movie theater would be thought of for supplies, so I could see it not being cleared. B. No, but I’m interested to see where they go with it. C. Ricks spin-off, or anything with that guy, Jefferey Dean Morgan! (Have you ever seen Possession? It was an average horror flick, but worth watching due to Jeffrey.)
Kent: A) Logically, this makes very little sense. Every single place that served food would have thoroughly been scavenged by now. The Saviors were pretty thorough and made others also do searches. B) Yes, I think so. It’s still a time of peace, at least until next week. You have to take some risks to continue building for a better future and these are things that will make it feel like it was worth it. Jerry’s fra-gee-lay line was also worth it. C) The Iron Giant because it feels attainable and is a great family film that is inspirational and better than any Disney film that AMC won’t have the rights to. I really want it to be Iron Giant.
3. Knowing what we know about Earl and Tammy Sutton, do you feel that they deserved a better introduction story than Earl getting arrested after Gregory plotted to assassinate Maggie? Also, are you happy that, at least for the time being, it appears that Earl and Tammy will have the rescued baby?
Raylene: I thought their story was fine. I am pleased they get a second chance at raising a child especially Earl it seems perhaps his drinking made him miss a lot of things the first time around.
Chris: I’m ok with their introduction. It was more original than most. It is always great to see a couple who have lost a child have another opportunity. (You’re right, it was more original. Maybe I am being shortsighted this week.)
Kent: I feel that they are good people who deserved a better introduction rather than “hey, your kid died on a mission and now you will be pawns in Gregory’s plot to kill Margaret and Earl is going to come off like an idiot”. I still really like Brett Butler as well. I hope both of them survive this season. There are a lot of babies, and they are a legit couple that made a lot of sense to have a baby. This was the perfect decision.
4. Jesus returned…in a flashback. In that scene, Jerry told Ezekiel and Carol about Nabilla being pregnant. We got Jesus and Tara delivering the charter. We also heard Tara briefly talk about leaving Alexandria to go to the Hilltop. What was the best part of this scene for you?
Raylene: Tara piqued my interest the most I am very curious what went down in Alexandria did Michonne become Russell Crow and Daryl Tugga after Rick “died” and

Chris: All of the teasing about what happened during the time skip. I. Must. Know. Plus Jerry = Awesome. (Episode 14 we will know, supposedly.)
Kent: It was all great, but that doesn’t answer the question. I think Tara had my attention with what happened with Alexandria.
5. What was the better scene for you: Connie in the cornfield (or sorghum?) or Ezekiel’s group at the theater playing “It’s All Right Now” by Eddie Harris?
Raylene: It was interesting to see how Connie fights in this new world. I did like the theater group also. Should’ve played Easy Street but Daryl may have destroyed that tape. (Maybe Dwight has it with him. If they play it on Fear, we will know.)
Chris: Connie. I liked that when she was escaping, they showed us more of her perspective by playing no sound. Very well done. (Yeah, the creativity of it was well done.)
Kent: I just love to hear some nice funk music. I have been listening to a lot the past month on YouTube, a lot of the ’70s in general. Check out “Street Life” by The Crusaders. I usually don’t like the Debbie Downer music that TWD provides us, but every once in a while, they give us an Easy Street, and this was fun and cheesy. It is nice to have these moments in a show like this. Still, I gotta choose the Connie scene. TWD is bringing a lot of good horror elements this season and I love it. The scene was very disorienting because of the audio. Very good choice in having it be Connie.
Final Thoughts – We get Beta next week, played by the great Ryan Hurst who has been in a number of great things including Sons of Anarchy as Opie and Remember The Titans. Also, we had a symbol on the back of a sign. Talk about these things or whatever you like.
Raylene: Since Beta is
Chris: I am hyped for Beta. He looks badass. As far as the symbol, it could be anything. Maybe there is another group we are unaware of. It could also be a marker the whisperers use to mark territory. (
Kent: I have been excited about Ryan Hurst since he was announced. That guy is amazing and he should be perfect. As for the sign, on Talking Dead, they alluded to there being more groups out there. I initially thought about it as a boundary marker. We know that Georgie’s group is out there. That helicopter group with Jadis and Rick are out there. We can safely assume that Heath has his own group by now. Dwight or Sherry or other former Saviors could still have a group.
If I had to make an educated guess, I would say this is a group of wood folks who bonded over The Blair Witch Project. My theory is that they all go through an initiation where they get cut and then get sewn up. Their motto is “Witches get stitches”. It will be amazing. Also, how great is that Geico motorcycle commercial with “Here I Go Again”? I really enjoyed Bounty this week, the quicker, thicker
