Stranger Things Season 3 9 Deuce Part 1

Welcome to Part 1 of our Stranger Things 9 Deuce blog for season 3. In this part, Erica gets lots of love from the group. In case you are new to 9 Deuce blogs, I typically will ask 9 questions and 2 bonus questions.  So the first 3 parts will feature 3 questions apiece and then part 4 will feature the bonus questions. Every day this week I will post a new part of the blog. This thing is long, so it’s best to break it down anyway. If I get enough hits, I will post a part 5 on Friday with all of the notes that I took while watching the season.

This year, we have one participant who speaks Spanish and I did the best I could to translate her responses. Some day I hope that we will have 5 different languages on this blog. That would be spectacular. Asia and Europe, accept the challenge! Any comments in bold are made by me, Kent.  Thank you for reading, and please share this with your friends, or leave a comment with your responses to the questions.

Here are links to all 5 Parts for easier navigation.

1.  Who were your 3 favorite characters this season?

Kristi:  Have to agree with Johnny. Same.

Johnny: Billy, Hopper, & The Mindflayer

Cece:  Steve, Hopper, & Alexei.

Chris T:  Billy, Steve, and Eleven

Raylene:  Erica, Steve, Hopper

Jim:  Eleven, Billy, and Dustin

Melanie:  Eleven, Dustin, and Max

Ana:  Hopper, Steve and Robin.

Kent:  Hopper, Erica, Dustin

2.  Who was your favorite newcomer this season?  Yes, it will probably be Robin, but if anybody else interested you, please share.

Kristi:  Robin. There is no other choice than Ethan Hawke’s daughter!  (Hold up…….damn, you’re right.  But her mom is mother F’N Uma Thurman, Miss Mia Wallace, The Bride.  I’m legitimately happy at this moment.)

Johnny: Alexei was definitely my #1, then Robin, and last not but least Mayor Kline. He played a good a-hole. Haha.  (The Alexei character was really a tour de force because he was a wide range of things throughout the season in his own way.  By the time that he got got, I was very sad.)

Cece:  Robin & I like that they used Erica more.  (Erica, played by Priah Ferguson, has consistently been a scene-stealer when given the chance.  This season proved that she wasn’t just a minor comedy character.)

Chris T:  Robin. And the whole staff of the newspaper deserved to be flayed, what a bunch of assholes.  (Yeah, they were great.  Now when you say flayed, are we going Mindflayer or Ramsay Bolton type flay?  I feel like Ramsay has a monopoly on that term in my mind.)

Raylene:  I enjoyed the Mayor but I’ve liked the actor since Saw. (The great Cary Elwes was a solid addition to the season.  It goes without saying that he was also great in The Princess Bride and Robin Hood: Men In Tights.  I like him more in this role though.)

Jim:  I liked the Russian scientist, RIP (In death, a member of Project Mayhem has a name.  His name was Alexei. There’s always somebody who doesn’t get my reference, so that’s from Fight Club.)

Melanie:  Robin and the “terminator” (That Russian Terminator guy, he has a lot of potential and was just a great random addition to the show, as wacky of an idea as it was.)

Ana:  Robin or Heather  (Huh, I didn’t think anybody would say Heather, but I liked most of her scenes now that I think about it a little more.  Good choice.)

Kent:  Jake Busey and Newspaper crew were effective in their roles.  I enjoyed them and that makes me a horrible person. Nobody here is surprised by this.

3.  Murray and Erica both got bigger roles this season.  Who was better?

Kristi:  Erica

Johnny: They were both fun to watch having more screen time, but I personally enjoyed Murray a little bit more. I loved seeing Brett Gelman get more of a chance to show off his acting chops. Especially in scenes like when Lexi was shot by the Russian terminator. Also, his interactions with the kids were pretty hilarious. I wanted to see more of that. Going back to Erica though… When she and Murray met and was giving him shit. It got a barrel of laughs out of me. Lol  (I also preferred Murray’s evolution this season.  I think that he adds something very unique to the show that none of the other characters could really add.)

Cece:  Erica!

Chris T:  Erica, but I found them both annoying AF (This is why we can’t have nice things!)

Raylene:  Erica all the way.

Jim:  Erica was much better

Melanie:  Murray- only because I have seen Brett Gelman in other things and he played less of a dick this season. (When I consider who he was being a dick to, I wasn’t as mad at him as most were, which in turn probably makes me a dick.)

Ana:  Erica, es una niña inteligente y sarcastica que se roba la atención de los espectadores.

Translation: Erica is an intelligent and sarcastic girl who steals the attention of the audience.  (That girl has a lot of crowd-pleasing charisma.  I’m curious if she will be able to use this show as a platform for bigger roles in the future.  I hope so.)

Kent:  Murray is my answer mainly because this was the natural evolution of Erica’s character and I feel that this was to be expected.  Murray could have gone many ways, but this worked really well for him.
