This week, Trevor, Bertie, and Richard died, but then Richard was resurrected. Also, we learned that Jingles wasn’t responsible for previous murders. My name is Kent and I write the questions every week and I have a great group of people who answer them. If you are familiar with some of the other TV Show blogs that we do on the site, then you will recognize most of the names. If you would like to participate in the blog and answer my inane questions, please contact me at kent@9deuce.com. Please enjoy!
1. Which fight scene did you prefer: Jingles vs Richard or Montana vs Donna?
Kristi: Jingles and Richard. A branch through the head is always going to be a win for me.
Raylene: Jingles and Richard for sure.
Eric: Jingles vs Richard
Melanie: Jingles (Mister if you’re nasty) vs Richard
Kelly: Jingles and Richard. The catfight wasn’t as satisfying.
Kent: Okay, I admit that I thoroughly enjoyed the catfight. Maybe it’s because I love wrestling and it brought back memories of the Attitude era and ECW. I liked that neither were skilled fighters and just going for it. Still, Jingles vs Richard had a clear cut victory. I’m pretty sure I heard the Mortal Kombat guy say “Finish Him”. Then I am pretty sure that Richard put in a quarter to continue.
2. Trevor, Bertie, and Richard (he was but then he wasn’t) were killed this week, in some way or another. Which kill did you like best? Is anybody else able to rise up from being dead? Is Richard going to somehow tie in with last season’s Apocalypse?
Kristi: Again Richard. I hope Jingles does rise. I want to see him kill Margaret. Chick is crazy. And yeah, that was my first thought when he became not dead. (The not dead and Satan thing, it feels like it is due to tie into Apocalypse…I hope.)
Raylene: It seems like he is now with rising and all. When Bertie died I was disappointed she didn’t have a huge role this year. I had her in the finale I didn’t call it. (I am super disappointed in how they handled Bertie.)
Eric: Richard’s was the best. No one else will rise up. No tie in. (Eric, you just brought me down from my rising up high. I don’t think anybody else will rise up either. But Brooke could be a she-demon. Just tossing that out there.)
Melanie: Richard’s death was the best. I don’t think anyone else will rise. I do not think he is associated with the Apocalypse. (Another naysayer to the tie-in. Now you people are making me second guess myself.)
Kelly: (I realize I’m not answering your question of the “best” kill so I apologize ahead of time for that, but I’ve got a lot to say on this topic.) I’m so sad for Bertie now that we know she wasn’t secretly Jingles’ sister or accomplice. We barely got to see her. I’m sad for Trevor too because I ended up really liking him once you got to see his dedication to helping everyone. We haven’t seen the ghost in a while so I’m expecting him to appear again soon which makes me hopeful that maybe the people who die here can come back, like how the Murder House property was. I had a hunch that maybe if there’s a necessary “battle” at the end (maybe with Ramirez now that we see Satan can resurrect him) the fallen victims from the past and of this night can come together and defeat whoever/whatever needs to be killed. That’s a great point of Apocalypse since we have a Satanic character. (There we go. It seems incredibly likely to me that this place is someplace where spirits can exist, and we have seen it before. Since they are now killing off main characters this early, it seems highly likely that they will resurface. They didn’t scratch the surface with Trevor and Bertie, and I can’t help but feel like their story isn’t over. Apocalypse has also helped set the stage, if they want to go down that road. I know that sometimes, dead is better, but not in the AHS world.)
Kent: Trevor’s death pissed me off. That was the point. Who else could Margaret have killed that would have angered the audience as much? Maybe Jingles, but that is about it. Trevor seemed to be universally liked. Bertie’s death was really good and it makes me want to know more about Xavier’s past. We can skip over the gay porn aspect, and that would be cool. Richard’s was the most Friday the 13th death, and since I have been working all week on that franchise, it gets my nod, but Bertie is a very close second. In hindsight, it may be #1 if there is more of a payoff later on.
3. We got the truth of Margaret and Benjamin’s (Jingles) past. Does Margaret intend on killing the rest of the group or does she really want to have campers arrive the next day? Will Benjamin become a good guy or remain a killer with some sympathy?
Kristi: I don’t think she will kill ’em all. (Metallica had to.) Ben will be out for revenge when he wakes up. (Is Margaret hoping to be a Master of Puppets? WIth a new killer enter named Sandman? In the end, who will truly be Unforgiven? Will Mr. Jingles be Welcome Home to his sanitarium? I really could do about another 15-20 of these. I’m just hoping to see the Devil’s Dance one more time between Jingles and Ramirez because there can be only One!)
Raylene: I think she’s had a taste for killing now so she’ll get rid of them before the campers arrive. I hope Ben gets some redemption. (One thing I have been noticing in the early Friday the 13ths, the first 4, is that the cops still show up the next day before the campers. I am curious if that is how this will go down. One thing is for sure. If the final girl doesn’t end up in a canoe at the end, then Ryan Murphy is a hack.)
Eric: She will kill them all to make way for new campers. He will be a good guy. (Am I the only one that wants to see Jingles as a camp counselor?)
Melanie: She will try to kill them, but will be killed by Benjamin. But, Benjamin will be killed for being Mr. Jingles. (Ohhhh, so the cops show up in time to see him kill Margaret, perhaps? That would be a sad ending. I guess as long as Brooke is in a canoe, I can accept it.)
Kelly: I think Margaret definitely wants campers, but I’m not sure if she can let the group live past this night. It’s up in the air for me on Benjamin right now. I feel for him. It was such a reminder of Lynch’s Twisty character story. (JCL plays some of the best characters. He really has honed his craft to add various dimensions to these roles. He was/is great in AHS, Channel Zero, TWD, Drew Carey Show, The Invitation, and I am sure that I am missing more. At some point or another, he deserves a feature project.)
Kent: There’s a part of me that thinks that Margaret still wants to have campers show up. I am curious if we will find out proof, one way or the other if there ever were plans to have campers. Here is what I think that we know, and if I am missing something, my bad. We know that a cook and a nurse were hired. We know that the day before camp opens, they magically get 5 new camp counselors, although I believe one of them was already committed and I don’t recall who it was. Those two things are contradictory on the surface. How are you planning on running a camp with Margaret, Rita, Bertie, Trevor, and whichever of the 5 committed? Even if it is a small camp, say, 20 kids, that would be a handful for that small of a staff. Still, she hired Bertie, Rita, and Trevor. Maybe we find out that Margaret had an issue with all 3 of them and planned on killing them. If that is the case, Margaret would know that Rita wasn’t Rita. See, this rabbit hole goes pretty F’N deep. You can make a case for either side of whether Margaret plans on having campers the next day. I am hoping for an answer by episode 7.
4. Who is the character that you have the most questions about moving forward?
Kristi: Not Montana or Brooke. They both annoy me. (Thank you for making me laugh.)
Raylene: Maybe Donna I don’t have a character I really am excited about. I guess seeing where Ben’s story goes. (Donna could be a sneaky fun character to get more insight on, or we may have seen all of her backstory.)
Eric: Richard (Eric, I can finally say that I can help you out with something. Now, you will see lots of info in this link. What they managed to leave out was his break in with Brooke, his relationship with Montana, his death at the hands of Mr. Jingles, his satanic resurrection, and dinner with Mr. March and friends. As always, Wikipedia can’t always get things right. On a serious note, this was totally worth reading for anybody, not at all familiar with Richard Ramirez.)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Ramirez
Melanie: Benjamin (Benjamin’s childhood and upbringing feel like it’s due, right?)
Kelly: Margaret and Brooke. (Both intrigue the hell out of me. I’d like to see more of Margaret in the time since the initial murders leading up to this camp thing, when we can learn if this is legit or not.)
Kent: Brooke because I am banking most of my theories on Brooke being absolutely crazy.
5. What was your favorite quote from this week? I will list a few of mine and you can feel free to use others if you like. We have:
A) “Bubble Gum Barbie’s into blades?” – Richard
“Montana, what’s with this metal shit? I’m trying to get shredded, okay? Why can’t you play something fun, like Cyndi Lauper?” – Rod (great 80’s name and shout out to Nightmare on Elm Street)
B) “Two guys? At the same time? Is he a ninja?” – Richard
C) “I thought making porn was bad.” – Xavier followed by “What?” – Trevor & Chet
D) “You, little girl, are as slippery as a handful of water.” – Richard
E) “Well, fuck you, Margaret. I am the monster that you made me.” Jingles
“No. You were just a guy who was in the wrong place at the right time.” Margaret (also a reference to Coven when they played “Right Place, Wrong Time”
F) Something else that you found delightful.
Kristi: B made me chuckle. That was my favorite.
Raylene: A. Rod’s whole interaction with Montana was great and all those short shorts were great in the aerobics class.
Eric: D, that is funny!
Melanie: B
Kelly: C and E of what you’ve listed.
Kent: Okay, I know that quote questions are lame. I know that it gives me zero opportunity to interact with the responses. I still have to commend the writers for giving us so many good quotes this episode. I will say that they are doing a great job because every option was picked at least once. Obviously, I loved all of them. My favorites were A and E. A made me laugh so much, just the Cyndi Lauper thing. E was because I loved the slight reference to Coven.
Final Thoughts – This show appears to be gaining momentum at a high speed. How soon before this show has that one inevitable really lame episode? Pick an episode number.
Kristi: 6?
Raylene:8
Eric: 9
Melanie: 9 Also, I wanted to add that the real Richard Ramirez had terrible crumbling teeth. It would have added to the menacing of his character. (That is a good point. I just noticed Beta’s teeth on this week’s TWD. I feel like teeth, in general, could be used more effectively in adding to a character. Captain Spaulding had really bad teeth. Also, Jason Voorhees has really nice eyes. They stand out so much in part 2 and 3, especially. I found that to be odd. They weren’t sinister at all.)
Kelly: Episode 6 or 8. I would have said 5, but I legit can’t remember what was on the sneak peek for this coming week. (The only thing from this week’s episode that I can remember is Xavier talking about how his face looks on the cover of TV Guide, or something like that.)
Kent: 6 seems most likely to me because 7 is the night before Halloween and Halloween episodes tend to get special treatment on this show. If not 6, then definitely 8. If this gets to ep 9 without a lame episode, I will be super impressed. Next week, I think we are going to try something slightly different.
