Fear The Walking Dead 9 Deuce: S:4 Ep:1 “What’s Your Story?”

The TWD 9 Deuce blog group has spread it’s wings and we will be trying to do a Fear The Walking Dead blog.  We are always looking for more contributors to this.  This will be a different format, as I will only be asking 5 questions and a Final Thoughts.  Hopefully, you will enjoy this experience.

This week, we see Morgan Jones’ crossover from TWD to FTWD.  Along the way, we are introduced to a gunslinger named John Dorie, and a journalist with a badass vehicle named Althea.  We’re going to discuss these new characters this week.  All of this and more in this week’s blog.  My name is Kent, and for Fear The Walking Dead, I only ask 5 questions and some final thoughts to make this blog a little more compact your reading pleasure.  Any comments in BOLD are written by me.  I hope you enjoy and if you or someone you know may want to do this blog, contact me, leave a comment, whatever.  The contact info is at the bottom of this blog.

  1.  Now that we know that Fear is in the same time frame as TWD, and now advancing past it, do you feel that Morgan was the right character to do the crossover?

Bob:  Yes, Morgan would be more moldable into FTWD because his past and history keep chasing him.  (Moldable is a very good term for this.  I agree.)

Chris:  Yes. He’s been trying to run from his demons, so it makes perfect sense for him to be the one to leave the group and stumble upon newcomers.  (Not only that, I think that this group has more of an edge to it, and Morgan kinda fits their vibe in some unique way, moreso than on TWD.)

Kent:  While I had hoped for Abe, Morgan makes the most sense.  Not only does his character make sense, but he’s still one of the more beloved characters, and that helps put eyes on this great show.  This works for everybody, as I assume Morgan gets more screen time now.

  1.  What do you make of John Dorie?  Is he smarter than he presents himself?

Bob:  Yeah, but I see him as simple and honest and true.  (I bet him and Tobin would have gotten along really well.  Similar guys, but John is way more of a survivor, or so it seems.)

Chris:  I don’t know yet, but I thought he was great.  It was cool to see a completely original character.  I like his humbleness and his motivation.  (Yeah, it is nice to get something that feels original, especially since you and I read the books, at times, things can feel stale.)

Kent:  I could see this guy becoming my favorite character on the show if Daniel and Strand have another lousy season.  Morgan will probably still win it though.  I liked the way that he was introduced.  I feel mellow and safe with him.  He seems like he has a good heart and there was something charming about how he presented himself.

  1.  Maggie Grace is Althea.  I think one of the obvious questions is simple: will we ever get a backstory on how she ascertained that vehicle of hers?

Bob:  I hope so, that’s pretty fantastic.  (It is fantastic, but does it also make her a target?  I would think so, because everybody would seemingly want it.)

Chris:  I hope so.  I’m guessing she was on some military facility doing interviews when the outbreak began.  (Ohhhh, theories!  That’s what I like to see!)

Kent:  She seems like a smart lady.  Chris has a good theory.  I could see her having used her ways of manipulation to get her hands on this machine.  Maybe she has a dark side to her.  I want to know!!

  1.  Here is the big question on my mind, and I hope for some ridiculous responses.  How does John and Althea have so much ammo for their respective weapons of choice?

Bob:  The revolver ammo was probably pretty common in TX.  It might not be able to be used in many other weapons.  As for the automatic weapons, perhaps the threat of those machine guns was enough to not have to use a lot of ammo throughout so she could simply store what she needed.

Chris:  Like Bob, I agree that she hasn’t had to use the machine guns that often.  The sight of them is intimidating enough. John is one of the few people I’ve seen with a revolver.  He and his wife both own one, so he might have already had a stockpile of ammo.

Kent:  Hmmmm, I did not get anything outlandish for a response.  Both responses were well thought out and probably accurate.   My theory is that since they are in Texas, they have both met Eugene’s sister and she is also a science teacher and she knows stuff, and has learned to manufacture ammo.  She is smart and actually has guards and is well protected and not nearly the coward that Eugene is.

  1.  We have 3 new additions to Fear.  Which of the 3 characters do you feel fits best with the show?

Bob:  I don’t care about fit – I want to cowboy, I haven’t seen a good ol’ cowboy in anything lately.  (He seemed instantly loveable, so he’s who I look forward to the most.)

Chris:  Well, Morgan is the best fit since he’s already been part of the Walking Dead universe.  John seems out of place, but in a good way.  (You’re right, Morgan is already established, so he makes the most sense.  John is probably the most interesting new guy who was actually a good guy since Abraham Ford I would say.  Imagine those 2 having a conversation.)

Kent:  I think this show deals with vulnerability way more frequently than TWD.  I feel Althea is probably the most vulnerable because without her vehicle, what skills does she have beyond that?  I hope to learn more.  John would have been interesting in last season on the ranch, but he also fits.  I can see him and Nick getting along really well.

Final Thoughts – Did you like the way it ended with Alicia and company ambushing our new trio?

Bob:  HAHA YES!  What a great introduction.  Morgan. Doesn’t. Die.  (Yeah, you have to just laugh at anybody trying to mess with Morgan at this point.  I would like to know if Morgan would have survived a one on one encounter with Negan, like Simon attempted to.)

Chris:  Yeah! I can’t wait to find out how they ended up there!  Cue the full episode of flashbacks!  (Hell, we may get more than one episode of flashbacks.  I like flashbacks a lot though in TWD, so sign me up!!)

Kent:  I liked everything about this episode.  I preferred this over the TWD season finale to be honest.  This felt fresh and that’s all I can hope and ask for.  I want to say, I was looking up how things left off last season, to make sure I didn’t forget any characters.  I learned that supposedly season 3’s finale at the dam was on the same day as TWD’s season 1 finale with Jenner at the CDC.  I am struggling with that ideology.  I don’t think it is accurate, but usually, this site is decent on it’s info.  I will provide a link.  I think I have to call BS.  That would imply that season 3 of Fear to now would be a minimum of 2 year.  If that is the case, we may have a whole season of flashbacks, damn.
