This week, the group buries Nick, but not before they dig up something else. Also, John Dorie gets some news on Laura that is pretty surprising. We also welcome Chris back to the group. All of this and more in this week’s blog. My name is Kent, and for Fear The Walking Dead, I only ask 5 questions and some final thoughts to make this blog a little more compact your reading pleasure. Any comments in BOLD are written by me. I hope you enjoy and if you or someone you know may want to do this blog, contact me, leave a comment, whatever. The contact info is at the bottom of this blog.

- So do you think that Naomi is, in fact, Laura, John Dorie’s missing woman?
Bob: Yes, definitely.
Chris: Yes. I loved the way they showed both of them unwrap the pistol the same way. (Yeah, it was a really nice touch!)
Kent: Yeah, I normally try to come up with some wacky theory, but this time, I got nothing. I like how they did this. I keep telling people, this is the Fear The Walking Dead that I always wanted. This is good TV!
- Will we find out where Luciana flipped to in the map?
Bob: Yeah, it was Texas. Juuussst guessing! (I don’t know if a cowboy is going to do well in Texas. Now I wish the time jump didn’t happen so we could see Abe and possibly cowardly Eugene.)
Chris: Yeah, I’m sure we will. Alexandria, Virginia. I heard it’s where the cool kids hang out. (Welcome back Chris! Now for me to a jerk and point out that the book was of Southwest America. I get everything else wrong here, so I figured I may as well fact check that because I was like, well he’s probably right.)
Kent: Well, we have 2 very different possibilities. Bob seems more likely. I’ll tell you the local that I think would be fun though. Las Vegas. I don’t know how many readers ever played Fallout New Vegas, but we could have something like that. We now have a gunslinger. It could be super fun! Of course, that moves us further away from getting Madison back home to Georgia to try to reunite with her brother, Richard, better known as Rick, but I am getting ahead of myself.
- Do you think anybody from Madison’s group survived aside from Alicia, Strand, Luciana, & Nick (who is now dead)?
Bob: Yeah, I can even see the interpretation that anyone who defected or were enslaved are “dead.” (I like that idea. I like that I don’t know. They haven’t given us much to work with and it’s delightful not knowing.)
Chris: I think so. I think Laura is alive. I can see her being alive only to be taken away at the end. (I think something bad happens to light a fire under John’s ass by the start of next season.)
Kent: This show likes to kill off huge groups of people in any given season. Sooooo, I’ll say Madison survived as a POW, but the group thinks that she is dead. I LOVED how they did the last 5-10 minutes of this episode too. The filming and directing of this episode were particularly brilliant. The new showrunners are doing great things. So kudos all around.
- Do you think that the baseball field is even secure anymore?
Bob: It is not a secure facility, but things are going to…dry up. (No more alcohol. That is a bummer. Mel strikes me as a man who enjoys a few beers.)
Chris: I think so. It’s hard to say. They are all acting so gloomy while at the same time being as vague as humanly possible. (Yes, once again, they are doing a masterful job at giving us very little, if anything to work with. In a month, we can probably look back and notice tiny things, but things that we wouldn’t have been able to practically piece together.)
Kent: I’d say less secure than before. The doors/ gates may not exist anymore and my best guess is that they are utilizing vehicles as barricades more than anything. They probably have a decent lookout system though. Aside from that, if they are vigilant in rounding up walkers and putting them in trailers, they realistically should be fine. They shouldn’t feel terribly threatened as they know that they have conquered so many square miles around though.
- Why do you think that Alicia, Strand, and Luciana want to go back and fight?
Bob: Revenge. Also, because the group that wants to take over may have altered their plans or strategy to expedite change. (I like that idea.)
Chris: Right now it just seems to be straight up revenge.
Kent: Here is my moral dilemma. If I say anything aside from revenge, it goes against my belief that they don’t know Madison is still alive. I still think it is for more than revenge. I don’t think it is necessarily for Madison. I think it is for somebody or something though. Maybe even Charlie. Rest assured, in 2 weeks time, this is going to be one of those answers that I wish I could take back.
Final Thoughts – 4 episodes in, is this the best storytelling that Fear has done in its 4 seasons?
Bob: Oh my Gosh Yes. BTW, I am 100% with the cowboy/cop. –
Chris: This is easily the best Fear has been. This is better than a lot of the original.
Kent: In my head, I keep waiting for this season to let me down. I was scared it would happen last week, so I actually put off watching by a day. Nope, it still kicked ass. I measure these shows by half seasons. Right now, I am hard pressed to think of any half season under the TWD label that had been this good and this compelling. Yes, we all really liked a lot of TWD’s season 3 and first half of season 4, but we also had to deal with stupid Andrea, Daryl leaving the group, Caroll getting kicked out of the group, the stupid plague in the prison. and other assorted nonsense. In all fairness, we got to hear a Tom Waits song (Hold On) and that great song when Governor captured Andrea called You Are The Wilderness which is still on all of my playlists. If we get to 2 more episodes of the same caliber as the first 4, I think we can crown a new champion or at least open up an analytical debate.
