Fear The Walking Dead 9 Deuce: S:6 Ep:1 “The End Is the Beginning”

In Fear The Walking Dead’s season 6 premiere episode titled “The End is the Beginning”, we are treated to a Morgan-centric episode where we meet Emile, Isaac, Rachel, and Walter. Only one of them is still alive by the end of the episode. My name is Kent, and for Fear The Walking Dead, I only ask 5 questions and some final thoughts to make this blog a little more compact for your reading pleasure.  Any comments in BOLD are written by me.  I hope you enjoy and if you or someone you know may want to do this blog, contact me, leave a comment, whatever.  The contact info is at the bottom of this blog.

 1.  We met 3 new characters in this episode with Isaac, Rachel, and Emile.  Which new character interested you most for this one episode?  Also, do you think that Rachel will play a big role this season?

Bob:  Emile was solid.  He unfortunately zigged and zagged when he should have just done his job! I’m not sure about Rachel. I love kids in real life but on shows like this, it’s a drag…  (RJ says hi.)

Raylene:  I really would’ve loved more of a storyline with Emile. He was an interesting take on a bounty hunter/ hitman.  Isaac’s skills from being a Marine would’ve been useful in this new location Morgan has found but of course, he naturally would be doomed. Rachel I think is going to be a badass I hope.  (I feel that Isaac’s story would be interesting and I hope to learn more through conversations with Rachel.)

Kent:  Emile has to be my choice for many reasons.  He looked badass and acted like a professional.  I like characters like that.  It’s a shame that he couldn’t have been a big villain for half a season, to be honest.  But as is FTWD tradition, they create a compelling character and kill them off way too fast, but Ginny lives.  Props to Walter in the very beginning.  The actor that played Walter was the lead in Hellraiser Judgment and he was really good in the movie.  Isaac and Rachel both were good too.  All around good new characters where 75% are already dead.

2.  What’s up with the key?  Will the end result be fun or a major flop?

Bob:  I think it’s a key for a food or weapons cache OR a colony.  (Food sounds more practical, so I’m going with weapons.)

Raylene:  I saw the one key we kept seeing is for that submarine we see in the end, yes I know I’m taking the easy guess. I would think that would have good supplies. (Maybe the crew from Down Periscope.)

Kent:  It’s a key to Strand’s heart, obviously.  The seemingly obvious answer is something to do with the sub.  But here’s the truth.  It’s a group run by Tobias, the boy from season 1 that I keep saying will return.  How do I know this for a fact?  It’s simple.  I have to be right sometime.  Just refer to all my Game of Thrones blogs and podcasts about Gendry’s return.  Tobias is this show’s Gendry.

3.  Are you more confident that Morgan will survive this season after seeing this episode?

Bob:  I think so.  Once I saw him alive at all on a season opener I declared him a clopener. That’s right, and opener and closer.  (I like your willingness to create words that sound weird to say out loud.)

Raylene:  Yeah Morgan will be going strong this season hopefully redeeming himself after last season.  (I feel that last season was the least “Morgan” season for the character.  This is his redemption song, and hopefully not his swan song.)

Kent:  I don’t think that you bring this guy in for 3 seasons just to kill him.  But if Kim Dickens is returning, that would leave this as a real possibility.  I don’t think this is when Madison returns though.

4.  Ginny has now quintessentially broken Morgan’s moral code regarding killing.  Are we going to see a more violent Morgan like how Rick sometimes got, or simply a normal Morgan who is willing to kill if needed?

Bob:  I think he will be “normal” for this world they are in. Now he wants to destroy Ginny. He will be laser-focused on this mission, something we didn’t see so much with Rick’s emotional tangents.  (I really like the idea of a laser-focused Morgan, even if it is only for a half or full season.  It could be a lot of fun.)

Raylene:  I think we’ll see a more violent Morgan. He has stated that Morgan Jones is dead and basically you are dealing with a whole new beast. You’ve got to adapt in this world. I’d like to see him and Gabe together they’d be badasses. (If you paired Gabe with Morgan, would Gabe still try to take charge or would they have something closer to a partnership?  I feel that Gabe would try to initially take the lead and then Morgan would have a good laugh and save Gabe and give him the smile.)

Kent:  He won’t be full-on crazy Rick, although that would be fun as hell.  Morgan has a goal now.  If anybody gets in the way of that goal then they will not survive if they oppose Morgan, I don’t think.  At least no-name characters.  So maybe 64% of crazy Rick but with a strategy.

5.  Morgan is a character that seems to always shine when he has episodes focused around him.  Name a character(s) in the TWD universe that you would like to see get their own episode focused on them,  Elaborate if you would like to.

Bob:  Herschel, if that didn’t happen. I only ever saw him contributing.  I would enjoy an episode of his wisdom nuggets, inspirations and verbal cantor for an entire episode.  (I remember that Herschel had that one great episode when everybody was getting sick in prison, which was a lame story, but he shined bright.  I agree, he would have been a great main subject.  I just saw The Exorcist III last week again.  He doesn’t have a huge role, but if you liked the original Exorcist, I highly recommend part III.  The acting is top-notch with George C. Scott and Brad Douriff, along with Scott WIlson who is constantly smoking in the hospital.)

Raylene:  I want to see more Judith perhaps her and Lydia together. I think Lydia can learn from Judith. I feel they will place Lydia more with Carol though.  (If they can give me Lydia, Judith, Negan, and possibly Carol all in one episode, I’d be super stoked.  Lydia is currently a top 5 character for me, and Judith is probably top 10, so I’d enjoy the pairing.)

Kent:  Tobias and John Dorie from Fear.  Bob Stuckey from TWD always interested me a great deal.  Heath could be compelling.  Simon would be my final choice.  You know that he had an interesting backstory that we never got to really dig into.

Final Thoughts – Is there any character that you want to see standout or really develop more this season?  If so, who?  Also, are you watching TWD World Beyond?

Bob:  Yes I am watching that other show… We will see where that goes. I want to see more Rachel. She had a baby, dispatched her husband, buried him in rocks while being sleep deprived by her baby.  (Huh, when you put it like that, she does have my interest now.)

Raylene:  Actually even though I joke with you I’d like to see some backstory on Ginny how she became who we see now. I haven’t started watching it yet but I will.  (I think there is a 20% chance that we get more backstory on Ginny, and I would enjoy that, I think.)

Kent:  Charlie still intrigues me.  I especially liked her stuff with Salazar.  But the real answer is Sherry.
