This week, the Mayans try to get back on track being an M.C. and not just Galindo’s crew. Angel revealed to Felipe that he was going to be a father. My name is Kent and I write the questions every week and I have a great group of people who answer them. If you are familiar with some of the other TV Show blogs that we do on the site, then you will recognize most of the names. If you would like to participate in the blog and answer my inane questions, please contact me at kent@9deuce.com. Please enjoy!
1. Did the M.C. make the right decision to go after the other M.C. (Vatos Malditos MC) and free all of those captive people?
Raylene: Yes they did. They’ve been preoccupied with Galindo and this will show other MC’s how badass they are. (I always assumed that The Mayans MC had a stellar reputation, but this season has put a damper on that.)
Kent: Yeah, absolutely. Bishop was right in saying that they weren’t acting much like an MC, and this was needed for them and the viewers. I like the subplot of them working for Galindo, but that shouldn’t be their sole purpose of else the show would get boring. Does this result in a dead Mayan? Taza seems the likely candidate because he was an ex-member of the Vatos Malditos MC.
2. WIll Coco and Letty ever be able to have a father & daughter relationship or will it always be closer to a sibling relationship?
Raylene: Maybe years down the road but for both, it’s still too weird for them. (Once Coco is in his 40’s and she’s in her mid to late 20’s, it may feel more natural for them.)
Kent: It will always be a sibling feeling to it. They both know who they are, but I don’t think that the dynamic can be changed at this point in their lives, which is fine. Coco needs to just keep being himself and he will be a good father, in his own way. Plus, they keep giving Coco great lines this season.
3. Why does Emily continue to lie to Miguel? What is the logic behind it and does she think that he won’t find out about any of this? Does EZ really believe that he can get away with whatever he is doing with Emily?
Raylene: Emily is just a liability and needs to be dealt with because she’ll get EZ killed by his unknown brother. (Imagine if they killed EZ in season 3, for instance. I am curious if that would add something big to the show or make it feel too empty. It’s too late for the Ned Stark effect, plus GoT had so many other main characters. I am curious about it though.)
Kent: I can’t tell if she is simply dumb as hell. Maybe she is rebelling or acting out because for the majority of her relationship with Miguel, she may have simply been a silent partner that has to follow strict rules and she yearns to do more. Whatever it is, it’s incredibly frustrating that she is dragging EZ down with her. I do think that Emily thinks that she is smarter than Miguel and underappreciated. I don’t think that EZ thinks about his future at all. I think he is the proverbial “happy go lucky” guy, but his name isn’t Happy. As smart as EZ is, all smart people are shortsighted in some capacity and ignore sound logic. Often, it is a way to challenge themselves in some capacity. The whole prove how great I am at overcoming some obstacle that nobody believed that I could.
4. Do you think that Bishop’s decision to stop worrying so much about Galindo’s stuff and worry more about being an M.C. will be beneficial to the club in the long run?
Raylene: Yes I think Bishop made the correct decision it will make them look more of a strong unit. (Maybe a G Unit. Can they get 50 Cent on as a member of the Niners? I want to make this happen. I miss the Niners.)
Kent: No, not at all. While Miguel has no problem treating the MC as his soldiers, Miguel also seems very loyal and willing to put himself on the line. I think that the further away from Miguel that the MC wanders, the worse that things will go. Once again, as a viewer, I openly welcome this decision to keep things interesting.
5. Angel and Felipe had a great heart to heart conversation. Did anything from the conversation stick out in your mind?
Raylene: I enjoyed the conversation. It seems Angel is seeking parental advice and maybe to start a new relationship with Felipe. (Yeah, it had a fresh start vibe to it. It was really well written and acted.)
Kent: While I loved the whole conversation and was, by far, my favorite section of this episode, it was the opening lines that I loved. It helped set the tone. Felipe said, “You look like shit.” Angel responds with “Thank you. I get that from you.” It set the tone as a good father and son conversation. It reminds me of something that would have been said in The Autopsy of Jane Doe.
Final Thoughts – Chibs is back next week. Do you think that he may have a recurring role, similar to Happy, or more of a one-time appearance?
Raylene: I wish it would be a recurring role. I would love to see Tig as well. Good God, I hope Emily gets killed this season. (I just saw Tig’s lover, Venus Van Dam last night. Walton Goggins was in House of 1000 Corpses. I really hope to see Tig soon. He’s the kind of guy that makes shows far more fascinating because at any moment, he could do something with huge implications. Chibs was usually my favorite on the show, he was very consistent.)
Kent: I don’t anticipate it being a one-time appearance, but maybe 2 appearances a season. Think of it in terms of how frequently we saw Alvarez and Pope in Sons. They were there more frequently in some seasons but not all the time. I am guessing a similar dynamic here. I can’t wait to see Chibs. But where is Tig? Tig was the VP, the last that we knew. Here is some info on the name of the episode “Tohil”. From WIkipedia
“Tohil was also associated with mountains and he was a god of war, sacrifice and sustenance.[3] In the Kʼicheʼ epic Popul Vuh, after the first people were created, they gathered at the mythicalTollan, the Place of the Seven Caves, to receive their language and their gods. The Kʼicheʼ, and others, there received Tohil.[4] Tohil demanded blood sacrifice from the Kʼicheʼ and so they offered their own blood and also that of sacrificed captives taken in battle. In the Popul Vuh this consumption of blood by Tohil is likened to the suckling of an infant by its mother.[5]“
