The Purge Ep:3 “The Urge to Purge”

This week Miguel is closing in on finding Penelope with the help of Pete the Cop and others.  At the NFFA party, Rick and Jenna have been offered a deal, but will did they resist it?  Shit got real at the business meeting, and we got to see more of the badass.  I think his name is Joe. It’s Kristi and I trying to go over the important developments of the week. Any comments in bold are made by me, Kent.

  1.  The badass guy (possibly named Joe) in the UPS like truck, is he going to be the hero that this show needs?

Kristi:  I do. He is definitely my favorite so far. I think of Slipknot everytime I see him.

Kent:  I really don’t know what his plans are.  He could be rounding people up to do some really fucked up shit, or he could just be the badass hero.  Either way, he’s what this show needs. I am going to suggest that he is rounding people up for something malicious, or so I hope.

  1.  Eileen killed Mark at the business meeting.  Did you see that one coming and was it a good twist or story component?

Kristi: I didn’t see that coming but I certainly saw the crazy in her. I figured something would go down. (She was focused on enough to be too mild, so she was definitely a good choice.)

Kent:  I didn’t see that exact thing happening.  We have been waiting for all hell to break loose at that meeting and this set the stage nicely.  I loved Eileen asking about her promotion. That was great in it’s nonsensical, only in horror does that scene work level of cheesiness,

  1.  Penelope has been offered up to the Nuns and Miguel was late by mere minutes.  We see that Penelope is in a room next episode with former wrestler, Brodus Clay or all people.  Does this story still have substance, or do you feel like this is just going to be Miguel turning into Rambo?

Kristi:  Yes, I see him turning into a Rambo type character.  I’m hoping we are done with the bus. That story is just boring to me. I do, however, dig the Nuns. Creepy ass looking things!  (I would have liked the bus to have been different and really it could have been a cool thing.  As it is, I regrettably agree with you.  Loved the nuns!)

Kent:  First of all, I am pissed at how lame the bus turned out to be.  That had such a cool and creepy cult vibe. Secondly, this is setting up for Miguel to be every 1980’s action star ever.  This can work, but they need him to work through some truly sadistic shit to keep this a horror theme. Why Brodus Clay is there, I don’t know.  But he used to be Snoop Dogg’s bodyguard, so there is that.

  1.  Rick and Jenna had made the deal, then they refused to kill the man at the behest of Mr. Stanton.  Obviously, this is bad news for them. My question is, shouldn’t they have been prepared to do what was potentially needed of them to get this 75 million dollar deal?  They knew what this party was and what type of people would be there, after all. Should they have allowed their morales to get in the way?

Kristi:  They are clueless. I don’t think they believed that was going to happen. I feel like Rick would have done it had Jenna not of said no. I tend to agree with Jenna here.  (I agree, I think Rick would have done it.  He seems like the bigger pussy.  At least Jenna stood by her convictions, whether one agrees with her or not.  You do, I don’t think that I do in this instance.)

Kent:  I hope they get tortured and mutilated for being dumbasses!  God dammit, this whole thing pisses me off. You are coming to an NFFA party hoping to get the host to invest 75 million in your company.  You know who this dude is and what he is into. To make use of Snoop Dogg for the second time in this blog, it would be like asking Snoop to invest 10 million in your business and not being prepared to celebrate by smoking some of that real sticky icky icky.  This whole thing is preposterous. I am so done with Rick and Jenna. When Jenna lives because Lila sacrifices herself, I will yell at the TV and probably wake up my neighbors.

  1.  Do you want to see more of Pete The Cop?  Were you happy that it was confirmed that the bus takes the same route every Purge?

Kristi:  Absolutely. Pete the cop is awesome. I kinda expected the bus doing the same route. The leader chick is very organized so that was no surprise to me.

Kent:  I like Pete the Cop and hope that he is featured later on, perhaps he monitors and see Miguel is in danger.  Pete was way cooler than the reporter schmucks. Also, thank you for confirming our bus theory.

Final Thoughts – Did you like the flashback of the first Purge when Miguel and Penelope were kids?  Did it add to the episode in any meaningful way, or just a way to kill time?

Kristi:  I did like the flashbacks. It’s always nice for me to get to know the characters and where they came from.  (This really did help explain why Penelope had issues in life and why she is sacrificing herself now.  I liked all of these flashbacks.)

Kent:  I liked knowing that they took money to support the Purge cause.  I always think flashbacks are such a useful storytelling technique.  It’s one of the best things that AHS and TWD have done over the years.  Keep using flashbacks, please! This was the best week so far for me. I thought that after the 4th episode, things would significantly improve.  I hope I am right because I am sick of being wrong.  I want to add that I have been listening to this song a lot and I could really see them using it for this show.
