This episode, the group tries to make it out of the cave together and alive, but that ain’t happening. Also, Negan and Alpha get nude. My name is Kent, and I ask 5 weekly questions and then people answer them. Any comments in BOLD are written by me. I hope you enjoy and if you or someone you know may want to do this blog, contact me, leave a comment, etc.
1. Is there any way that Jerry accomplished what he did in this episode? That’s a large man crawling through some narrow crevices.
Bob: Jerry wasn’t dying that way. No way. I may have stopped watching the show. So yeah he is fitting through. (And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how close so many people are from being non-viewers. There are people that you simply can’t kill off without a great reason. Jerry, Rick, Daryl, Eugene, Car…….sigh.)
Raylene: No that would not have been possible. If you can get Scott Steiner to do the math on it to prove me wrong then I’m solid. (This video never stops being amazing. I’m so happy that I have the shirt.)
Kent: I think I may be the best person to speak on this matter as a man of similar proportions. How the hell are people even big in the ZA at this point? Anyway, given Jerry’s age, he may have been able to pull this off, but it is highly unlikely. There are athletic big men who can jump with great balance. Squeezing through the rocks though, That is a tough one. I’m going to say that this was all BS. If he was in his early 20’s, I’d give it more credence. (clearwater revival)
2. Is Carol really trying to hurt Alpha and the horde or is Carol possibly going to extremes to potentially kill herself to become more of a martyr for the cause?
Bob: She does not want to live. She keeps living and others keep dying. Par the course for TWD. (It’s interesting because, for the comic fans, Carol clearly didn’t want to live by the time they got to the prison. Once rejected by Rick and Laurie to have a 3-way relationship, boom, she was done. Part of me thinks that some of these characteristics are being brought back.)
Raylene: Carol just has no common sense anymore. She needs to be banished again. (But she got banished originally for being the smartest person, soooo will that really help?)
Kent: This is a situation where I wish I didn’t know how long the contracts were for some of the talents. I could totally see them writing off Carol in a scenario where she grabs Alpha and rams both of them through a spike or something. Would they dare have the balls to make that play now? It would be cool, but I still believe that Negan gets that kill. Then something big will come between Negan and Carol, and maybe one just leaves or maybe a death. Something different will come of this. Also, screw Henry.
3. What exactly is Negan trying to accomplish? Obviously, he’s getting close to Alpha by telling her about Gamma, but simultaneously that potentially hurts Alexandria in the long run.
Bob: Alpha’s death will not hurt Alexandria. The betrayal will be crushing but Negan is out for himself. (While Alpha’s death may not hurt Alexandria, although retaliation will be swift and just via Beta, I think just this info can be a problem. I’ll elaborate in my response. I think Negan is working on many levels by the way, not just for himself, but I may be wrong.)
Raylene: Perhaps he wants to be the new Beta or he is just playing the game really well. I mean not being in a cell has to feel good. (As you know, it’s all about the game, and how you play it. I will refuse to play my favorite Wrestlemania clip ever. He may want to be part of this culture, but I doubt it. He can’t help himself with talking, and he knows that long term, this isn’t a fit. I don’t know if he understands what kind of structure he can tolerate living under, in the long run.)
Kent: While I did say that Negan is thinking on many different levels, and I do feel that his intentions are to prove himself to the Alexandria crew because despite a bunch of things, I think Negans either likes or respects the hell out of Daryl, Eugene, Michonne, Judith, Gabe, Aaron, and perhaps Rosita. Still, let’s have a bit of perspective here.
So Negan tells Alpha about Gamma. The thing is, he must be assuming something about Alpha. My guess is that Alpha utilizes Gamma’s betrayal to lead more people into another trap much worse than the film The Descent, which was merely decent. Still, push comes to shove, Negan has to make a play to get Alpha on his side and he may not have had any better opportunities any time soon. It was his only play, simultaneously, it may have been a bad play.
What was the question again? Oh yeah, Negan is just trying to get some lovin’. Way better nude scene than Andrea with the Governor and any Glenn and Maggie nonsense.
4. Do the Whisperers bathe?
Bob: oh Negan, you fell on turds? Let’s get down. Why bathe when you wear a skin suit? Egghh. (I’ll tell you why you still bathe. Not for the smell, or in Negan and Alpha’s case, the stank, but rather to help with skin tears and breakdowns. It’s more to preserve your body, even if you’re wearing a skin mask.)
Raylene: I say no. I mean they live like animals so perhaps only when it rains or they may just want to keep the stink up to blend in. (But animals clean themselves in their own way.)
Kent: I think that they do, or perhaps they intentionally navigate toward water sources to attempt to clean themselves a little bit. I’m just saying, who knows if they wipe, right? But dudes are handling their junk when urinating. After a few days, that can be rank. So not washing your hands all that time while touching that and then eating with your hands. I’m gonna say that they do bathe.
5. What did this episode accomplish and did you feel that this was a good or bad episode overall?
Bob: Carol is in the weakest state we have seen her in. She is being careless. Now that hard times are between Carol and Daryl, they are bound to be reunited, eventually. (Soooo what you are saying is that Connie and possibly Dog are going to die to weaken Daryl emotionally enough where Carol can help console him? It’s been nice knowing you Connie.)
Raylene: To me it just showed Carol is only caring for herself. Even though I hate to admit it I enjoy seeing anything with Negan now. (But after that horrible thing that Negan did, and now you like him. You know that horrible thing I am referring to, right? The lineup where he opted not to kill Maggie and Michonne and spare us so many terrible scenes.)
Kent: This showed me that they wanted to do a show in a cave and explore some claustrophobia, mixed in with a lot of selfishness, and now Magna and Connie are screwed. Also, they wanted the filthiest nude scene in TWD history. Go ahead, try to top it. This was a very in-between episode for me because of Carol, but most everybody else was really good. I am becoming a bigger fan of Magna, by the way.)
Final Thoughts – What was the most unrealistic thing that happened this week, better known as our GMA (Glenn Memorial Award)?
Bob: Negan not being cunning enough to share this info with Beta first and letting him have the credit. (Ohhhh, that is an interesting take. But then we would have had that nude scene between Beta and Negan…I don’t know.)
Raylene: Everything with Jerry (Jerry was strong enough to hold that log, I think. So not everything.)
Kent: I feel that Aaron would have had significantly more difficulty with some of the things that he did in this episode. I don’t know the weight of his prosthetics, but I feel like there would be some balance issues for him. Also, how was Jerry stuck but then able to take stuff off?
