Wentworth Season 7 Part 3

In part 3 of our Wentworth Season 7 blog, we talk about Boomer as the final main cast prisoner, all the deaths, the new people, and of course, The Freak. The season ended with a familiar face. It was another season with less and less familiar faces. We had 4 deaths, a couple of hostage situations, an appearance by Frankie, but nothing truly compared to the final scene when we saw the face of the Freak. This has left fans rejoicing. I’m breaking this blog into 3 parts. There are three of us. Any comments in bold are made by me, Kent.  Thank you for reading, and please share this with your friends, or leave a comment with your responses to the questions.

Here are links to all 3 parts for easier navigation.

9.  Are you surprised that somehow Boomer is the last remaining of the big prison characters?  Do you think that Boomer would make a good top dog? Do you think that we actually know the person who will be top dog by the time season 8 returns?

Raylene:  I don’t think Boomer would be a good top dog. She’s too impulsive you need to be able to think before taking some action. I think we’ll see in the first episode who the top dog is. (I don’t think they will have one established for at least one episode.)

Jamie:  Boomer is better at taking orders she would never be able to give orders without being persuaded. I’m thinking it’s a character we have not seen yet. (Boomer is very easily persuaded and manipulated.)

Kent:  Boomer is the muscle lackey.  She just isn’t witty enough to maintain top dog for more than a week.  Allie could be the next top dog. She was with Bea and Kaz and Marie. So she has learned from 3 of the past 5 top dogs (I think my numbers are accurate).  If anybody is ready to be elevated, why not Allie? Give her a redemption season. She still would have Kaz’s crew backing her up. Just a thought.

Bonus Deuce

1.  Do you like having so many new faces every season or do you wish they had more consistency like Orange Is the New Black had with recurring characters?  Does Wentworth kill off too many characters?

Raylene:  This show does seem to blow through characters. I would rather have like half consistent characters and then new ones. (A little half and half?  We need a white Russian character.)

Jamie:  I loved Sons of Anarchy where they killed just about every main character. I love the show and the new faces aren’t bad at all. Orange introduced new characters that really had no purpose   (Orange just had people to be there and get a paycheck, I think.)

Kent:  I would say that not only did Sons have a nice ratio of new to veteran characters, but seasons 1-5 of The Walking Dead also did a relatively good job of this.  I feel that Wentworth kills too many and I felt that Orange didn’t get rid of enough. Neither show struck the happy medium.

2.  Excluding Liz, there were 4 main deaths: Ray, Kaz, Kosta, and May Jenkins (Boomer’s mother).  Who deserved to die the most and who deserved to die the least?

Raylene:  May I say the most because of her awful parenting and she wasn’t going to change. I saw Ray as the least deserving. The poor dude was just in love with one part of a horrible sister character.

Jamie:  I agree with Raylene. It was a toss-up between Boomer’s mom and Kosta. Poor Ray

Kent:  Ray’s death really made me sad, and he didn’t have a HUGE role, so I must say that they did his character extremely well.  He probably did just as bad, if not worse stuff than anybody else on the list though. Yes, he was lovable, but he probably also had it coming.  I say that Kaz is actually the least deserving. I know that she did bad shit in order to get in prison, but at least there were some principles involved.  Most deserving is obviously May because she is just a piece of shit. At least Kosta was supplying stuff to people that may help them get through the day.

Final Thoughts – Did seeing Joan “The Freak” Ferguson at the very end of the season for one second give you hope for next season or does it feel like they are desperately grasping at straws?

Raylene:  For sure because she is my favorite. I love her acting abilities and what she brings alive in The Freak character.  (I want to find more of her films.)

Jamie:  I was so so excited to see Ferguson!! She will be back eventually and the suspense keeps you wanting more.  (I am curious if they brought her in to replace Rita.)

Kent:  This was the best part of the whole season!  This gave me hope. I haven’t been fond of the show the past 2 seasons.  This wiped everything away and gave me that sense of “I can’t wait for next season”.  Isn’t that what every show should strive for? Yeah, this was also a grasping of straws, but this show needed a boost and given how unrealistic so many other scenarios played out on the show, I’m down with this one.
